Nintendo announced their newest console to much fanfare from the international gaming community. It's called the 'Switch' and it enables gamers to play console games from wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. For instance, let's say you are playing Mario brothers on your couch at home and you get thirsty. Instead of stopping the game to go to the parlour, you can take the system (tablet) out of the docking station. The system will then switch to portable mode (get it... switch) where you can enjoy your game while going for a C-Drink.
While I'm excited for this innovation to hit the market I'm also skeptical. Nintendo's trailer above showed many different uses for it but it left me asking questions that will not get answered until till early next year. Here are some of them:
- How much does it cost?
- How powerful is the system?
- What is the battery life of the system?
- Will third-party developers support the system?
- Would anyone really use the portability function of the system?
- Is the Wii-U and 3DS dead with this hybrid console?
With questions like these many people are speculating on everything about Nintendo's newest console. Visit IGN for a list of all the rumors surrounding the Switch that have been confirmed, partially confirmed or debunked.
Is this even practical? |
Investors are also disappointed in the reveal as Nintendo's stock dropped since the announcement. However, investors rarely get gaming right because most investors don't understand the video game industry. Personally, this system might be the first Nintendo device I buy since my Gameboy Advance SP (the times we had together). But if some of the answers to the above questions isn't to my liking I will hold off on getting one when it launches March 2017 (that's right around the corner).
What do you think of Nintendo's newest console? Will it find success or will it fail? Please leave your opinions in the comment section below.
